Digital geolocated tourist trail

Liverpool Irish Festival - Follow the trail of "The Great Hunger"

We’ve been working with the fabulous Liverpool Irish Festival over the summer. And our geolocated platform created for the Irish Famine Trail has now launched.

The app sits in your browser, so there are no downloads, and its in-built map bounces from satellites to provide you with a real-time GPS location. As you walk the trail, notifications pop-up to let you know there is some special history just around the corner.

It’s been a joy to work with Emma CEO of the Liverpool Irish Festival, and her team. They have such amazing content, and so many important stories to tell. Within the range of the numerous site experiences there are audio files, artist-led community films and all sorts of information to be accessed in the various locations across Liverpool.

It’s an emotional journey, because, well you are walking in the footsteps of people from history who were fleeing from a terrible famine. And being immersed in these important stories, which will resonate with anyone – especially today.

To access any of the sites on the trail, you can click on this link.

Instead of an app that you have to download (which takes up memory), users just keep their browser window and tab open.

Keeping the browser tab open will allow GPS to help visitors navigate between the 15-Trail locations.

Each location delivers information about its significance to the Liverpool Irish Famine Trail and its connection with An Gorta Mór (The Great Hunger).

So, if you happen to be in Liverpool, for the Liverpool Irish Festival, do get a moment to try the trail, and use the feedback button to let LIF know how you got on.
